In the third year of my university degree I designed and implemented an analog optical communications receiver for one of my courses. In this post I want to revisit that design and the final report I wrote for the course. I want to explain the design process, how and why I made the decisions I did and cover the simulation steps to verify performance and the final implementation using KiCad.
